David Clifton
President

David is reading for his MPhil in political theory. His particular interest in classical republicanism comes from the fact that he is really an ancient history nerd at heart, having done his undergraduate degree in the Classics. He enjoys competing in trivia competitions, discussing politics, dancing, playing tennis badly, and proudly saying “y’all” to remind everyone that he is, in fact, from Texas.

As President, David serves as the representative of all graduate students in College, and his main role is to advocate for the MCR and its members with College and University administration. He is the main point of contact for any MCR member with questions, comments, or suggestions about any facet of College life, and members are encouraged to reach out to him for any reason.

Jeanne Pacco
Vice President

Jeanne Pacco is in the second year of her MPhil in Ancient History, with a focus on Greek religions. When she is not in Greece studying old stones or in the library studying old books, Jeanne is usually pretending to be a rower, tasting Belgian beer, Netflixing or teaching Lorenzo to pronounce her name.

As Vice-President, her main responsibility is the planing of Freshers' Fortnight. She is the person to go to if you are a confused fresher with loads of questions about Oxford life. She also deals with the election process for the MCR committee, represents the president in his absence and helps around with MCR events.

Casper Beentjes
Treasurer

Casper is a final year DPhil student in Mathematics. As part of his DPhil he has to spend a fair amount of time juggling with numbers and playing around with computer code, but when he's not, you might find him playing college football, squash or cycling around the countryside (an obvious hobby for somebody coming from a country with more bicycles than people!).

As your treasurer he oversees the MCR's expenditures and pays for the subscriptions, licences and all kinds of other stuff so that you don't have to worry about them! If you do, however, worry about the financial state of the MCR or have any suggestions for new subscriptions or expenditures, do feel free to contact him at any time in the bar or via mail.

Imogen Stead
Social Secretary

I am an MPhil student in Classics, now into my 5th year at New College. As social sec, my partner-in-crime and I organise a variety of events such as exchange dinners with other colleges’ MCRs, wine and cheese exchanges (my personal favourite), pub quiz nights and bops (college discos). If that isn’t enough to keep the grad community entertained, we also organise an annual MCR garden party to celebrate the end of the academic year: the fun never stops!

Outside of my social secretary responsibilities I can generally be found looking at Greek manuscripts in the library, playing hockey, or at the MCR bar with beer in hand.

Lorenzo Venturini
Social Secretary

Lorenzo is doing a DPhil in Biomedical Imaging, and spends his days looking at brains and trying to figure out how they fit together. As one of the MCR social secretaries, his job is to organise exchange dinners, bops and parties for all the graduate students of New College.

Lorenzo can reliably be found at MCR events, especially those which involve free food and drink. He enjoys rowing to an unhealthy degree, and memorises useless trivia in his spare time to hone his pub quiz skills. His primary motivation in life is the consumption of large quantities of cheese.

Saskia Brueske
Welfare Officer

I am currently here at Oxford studying for my MPhil in General Linguistics and Comparative Philology. When I'm not in the library analysing systems of languages I may or may not actually know how to speak myself, you can most certainly spot me somewhere around College or the MCR house! Outside of studying, things I enjoy include dancing ballet, going to concerts, petting any animal I can find, and fiddling around with (often my own creations of) vegan recipes!

As Welfare Officer, I am in charge of organising events to encourage us all to wind down and look after our wellbeing whilst here at New College. You'll see happenings like Welfare Teas, Arts & Crafts Nights, different kinds of support workshops, and we also host professionally-led yoga classes! Additionally, along with the MCR team of trained Peer Supporters, I am available to chat confidentially and on a one-on-one basis about virtually anything that might concern you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have anything you want to discuss with me: whether it's personal worries or event requests, I am always happy to listen and offer support where I can!

Maria Golubev
House Officer

Maria is in her second year of an International Relations MPhil. During her undergraduate degree, she pursued an entirely different subject – International Relations. In her free time, Maria enjoys dogs, food, alcohol, making fun of David Clifton and bouncing around the world, in any combination.

As House Officer, Maria is responsible for the upkeep of the Rew Nooner Spoom and the MCR kitchen area. She does her best to keep these spaces tidy and usable but kindly asks that you nevertheless refrain from swinish behaviour in our common areas as often as can be helped. As part of her duties, Maria buys tea, coffee, snacks and anything else your heart may desire for the kitchen, should you contact her and let her know.

Arts and Culture

As Arts and Culture rep, I keep the MCR informed of various arts and culture related events happening around the university and run subsidised trips to performances; my job is essentially to promote the huge variety of art and culture that Oxford has to offer to its student body around the MCR. I also occasionally indulge my passion for wine and cheese by running wine and/or cheese themed events.

Outside of the committee, I continue to be artsy and cultured by playing the bassoon in university orchestras, producing plays and (unfortunately) supporting Arsenal Football Club. When not analysing ancient Greek literature in a library, I am more often than not to be found on the hockey pitch or consuming large amounts of cheese.

Priyanka Panchal
Equality and Diversity Officer

Priyanka is in her second year of a DPhil in Psychiatry, investigating mood instability and its cognitive and neural underpinnings in bipolar disorder and depression. When she is not studying in the library or splitting her time between the Warneford and JR hospitals, you can usually find her baking or at one of the MCR’s many social events! As a peer supporter, she is also available to chat confidentially and support students with any matters of concern.

As Equality and Diversity officer, Priyanka oversees and promotes the MCR’s E&D activities and works alongside the Women’s, LGBTQ+, and Welfare officers. She also works to advance access and outreach for the graduate community (for example, through the New: Over the Wall Facebook page), as well as collaborate with college in order to promote disability access and provisions across the college site.

Helen Potts
Women's Officer

Hi I'm Helen and I'm your Women's Rep. I'm currently in the 2nd year of my DPhil in Cardiac regeneration where I'm trying to mend broken hearts. I love all things sport (especially rugby), as well as brews, biscuits and chats.

As your Women's Rep, I am here for any self-identifying woman to talk about any of your issues, no matter how big and small. I aim to make sure New College is an inclusive and equal environment where women can support women so look out for my emails with info about interesting talks and our very own Women's Events and please don't hesitate to get in touch with any ideas you might have!

Aaron Hundle
Sports Representative

Aaron is in his final year of the Clinical Medicine course. He gets involved in a wide range of sports at all levels including squash, football, tennis and croquet. He particularly enjoyed captaining the university seconds squash team and hosting the Varsity match last year.

As the MCR Sports Rep, Aaron's job is to make sure that you have everything you need for your college sporting endeavours. This includes maintaining our sports equipment and facilities as well as keeping you informed of any college or university sporting opportunities. He's also responsible for organising our MCR sports teams and liaising with the captains of the JCR teams, which are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. So reach out to him if you’re keen to start up or join a particular team.

Daniel Hatem
Bar Representative

Danny is reading for his DPhil in Politics, focusing on political parties and democracy in Western nations. If it's not made exceedingly obvious by his mellow accent and irritating obsessions with baseball and soul music, Danny is American. He enjoys thought-provoking conversation and mixing a decent drink.

As Bar Rep, Danny is in charge of stocking and dispensing spirituous (and non-alcoholic) beverages in the MCR. If you have any requests for the bar, questions about its function, or want to volunteer as a bartender, please feel free to reach out to him!
